Reason #4 you need self-Mastery

...self-Mastery attracts GOOD LUCK!

Most of the time, I've noticed that my luck is directly related to my attitude... if one is good, so is the other, and the luck follows the attitude, not the other way around!

Here's an example: One Saturday morning not long ago I woke up to no water (i.e. it's before dawn and I shat and the toilet didn't flush). I was just awake enough to think "Ok, I have a choice here. I can be really pissed off that instead of going back to my bed on a Saturday morning I have to schlepp enough water to flush the toilet and then diagnose what's wrong with the well, OR I can be grateful. Grateful that there's water in the creek and a new bucket on the porch. Grateful that it's not also cold and raining. Grateful that my very competent well guy answers calls on the weekend, and comes over right away. Grateful that I have the money in my account to pay him. Grateful that it's early on a Saturday so I don't have to go to work and I have a couple of hours to get started fixing the problem before anyone else will be up and complaining about the bathroom situation." When I got out to the well-house I was also grateful to discover that, although there was an electrical problem, the pump-saver had tripped, protecting the VERY EXPENSIVE pump 800 feet down the well from damage.

I had myself in a really good mood by the time the repairman arrived, and we were able to pull a new wire through a 30-foot conduit to replace the one that had burned through. But here was the really good luck: the damaged wire not unexpectedly broke as we were pulling it, but the broken end was so close to the opening that we were able to reach it with pliers and pull it on out instead of having to trench for a new conduit! Both of us looked at each other, high-fived, and exclaimed that was AWESOME GOOD LUCK! I ended up feeling that I had had a VERY LUCKY DAY!

self-Mastery involves being able to focus on what's important, follow through and be effective, manage my emotional state, choose to be appreciative, and recognize the possibilities for learning, growing, and creating that every day brings. People who are masters of themselves DO attract good luck, and they feel luckier than others, because they have the presence to be grateful for their good fortune. The really empowering news: these are magical skills that can be learned and practiced!
