Saraswati/Sophia

Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of creativity, learning, and the arts.  She is known as the Wisdom of God, Sophia, or "the Word," in the Christian tradition.

Saraswati/Sophia brings wisdom, discernment, and creativity.  She is often depicted with a peacock, who represents the beautiful, preening ego.  The message of this symbolism is very important to the ethical stance of the Witch.  It is not wise or necessary to extinguish the ego; in fact, we must each become bigger and brighter and more powerful to effect change in the world.  The critical constraint on the ego is not self-hate but love.  The ego must act to develop and apply knowledge only in the adoring service of Wisdom (rather than out of selfishness or idle curiosity) to avoid creating disastrous evil.
